If you happen to come to the gym at 5pm your probably going to see a high energy Crossfitter warming up, well that most likely is Lauren Cohen. Lauren has been Crosfitting for 3 years and in that time there has been a noticeable change in her strength, flexibility and endurance.
Lauren by trade is an educator, however @ CF231 she is the quintessential student. She is continually looking to improve her lifting technique and gymnastic skills by being very receptive to our coaches instruction and direction.
Recently, Lauren participated in the CF231 Winter Classic Competition in the RX division. To her surprise (not to the coaches) she finished first. In the last few weeks, Lauren also began doing kipping handstand push-ups mastering another skill in her Crossfit journey.
Lauren's presence energizes our gym and makes it a better place.
We are thrilled to recognize Lauren as a vital member of CF231.
We "interviewed" Lauren and found out a little more about her.........
When did you begin Crossfitting? 3 years ago
Why did you decide to begin Crossfitting. I was looking for a challenge in a class setting,, it seemed Crossfit might meet those needs.
Describe your first day at the gym. I was definitely intimidated and challenged, however I knew this was exactly what I had hoped it would be.
What motivates you to keeping coming back each day?. The sense of community, variety, coaches, fellow members, I could go on and on but you get the picture.
What are some of your short term and long term goals. My short term goal is to get a bar muscle –up, my long term goal is handstand walk (at least a few feet). I’m working on it.
What is your favorite movement? Bench Press, not sure why just love it.
What is your least favorite movement? Burpees (I don’t think I’m alone here).
What is so special about CF231? It goes back to the sense of community, caring coaches and supportive members. It a place I really enjoy coming to.
What are some hobbies outside the gym? I love to travel. I recently visited Iceland, incidentally home of Game of Thrones.
Share something about yourself that would surprise us. I can’t think of anything, honestly I’m an open book. That’s just who I am.
What changes have you seen since beginning Crossfit? I've seen changes in posture, strength, balance and all those physical things but especially in my confidence level.
What advice do you have for people just getting started. I would definitely say stick with it. You may want to quit but the benefits far outweigh the pain. Also be patient it takes a long time to master the techniques.
